College of Design Building Access & Guidelines

  • Building hours will be from 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM. 
  • Classrooms will be closed after the last class and will be open at 8 AM when classes start. 
  • College of Design students will have after-hours access to the building via their Buzzcard. 
  • A physical distance of 6 feet will need to be maintained at all times for students/faculty/staff throughout each College of Design building. 
  • Face coverings are required where 6 feet of distance cannot be achieved.
  • Appropriate signage has been placed around each College of Design building. 

Studio Access

  • Studio hours are from 8 AM – 11 PM.
  • A physical distance of 6 feet is to be maintained at all times for students/faculty/staff in studio. 
  • Face coverings are required where 6 feet of distance cannot be achieved.
  • No food or drinks allowed in studio.
  • No microwaves or refrigerators are allowed in studio. 
  • Appropriate signage has been placed in each College of Design studio.
  • Wash hands frequently. Sanitizer is available at various locations in the building.
  • Conducting a Daily Self-check is required before coming onto campus for all students/faculty/staff. 
  • Disinfectant is available upon request from Bryan Croy.

Design Shop Access

Hours: Hours are being reduced from 76 per week to 52 per week.    

Monday – Thursday: 8:30 AM – 6:00 PM

Friday: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM

Saturday – Sunday: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM (closed 12:00 – 12:30 PM for lunch) 

  • These hours may change depending on number of student employees available, student employee class schedule, and state of the pandemic.  These hours are for all shop spaces.
  • No Entry without a reservation and appropriate tag.  Available equipment and workbenches will have an assigned tag located on a board at the shop entry.  (10 workspaces available, limited equipment)
  • No Food Allowed in Shop areas.   Students must be working on class projects. 
  • Machines can be reserved in 15 minute sessions with a maximum of 30 minutes (per machine).   
  • Workbenches can be reserved for up to 1-hour session. 
  • Reservation for Equipment and Workbenches 

Entry Procedure:

  1. Have reservations for chosen equipment and/or workbench.   
  2. Before entry everyone must wash/sanitize hands.  Doors will be propped open, only students with shop access can enter. No group projects, only one person per reservation/tag.
  3. Masks are required while in the building.
  4. Remove tag(s) from board for reserved equipment.  
  5. Hang tag on equipment while in use, reverse tag when done to signal staff to clean and disinfect equipment.
  6. Leave area – tools and safety glasses used while visiting shop should be placed in “used” bins located near exit.  Staff will collect and sanitize. 

Laser Cutters:

  • Students should practice safe social distancing.
  • Staff will clean high touch areas every 4 hours (8 AM – 5 PM). It is encouraged that students sanitize keyboards and handles prior to use with provided spray and towels. 
  • Remove used materials and debris from machine and the area.

3D Printing:

  • Students can email files to -  gtdesignshop@gmail.com  (time and cost will be given prior to printing)
  • Student can also use the 3D print “tag” from the board (1 person only, no reservation needed) and enter the shop to transfer files, pickup and pay.  Students should practice safe social distancing.
  • Do Not expect same day service. Plan ahead.  Print services will be busy at times.

Shop Sales:

  • Students can use the sale “tag” from the board and enter the shop to purchase acrylic, foam, dowels, etc.  Only 1 person may enter, and student should practice safe social distancing.

Plotting Office (Room 359A)

Hours:

  • Monday & Wednesday:  8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Friday:  8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Sunday:  1:00 PM – 6:00 PM

  • (Preferred): Plotting requests may be submitted via web browser or in person during operating hours.  Use this website to upload your image to plot (in .jpg format).  We will allow in-person plotting requests USB Thumb drive (containing the image to plot).  All USB Thumb drives must be wiped down with sanitizer by plotting office personnel.
  • Students will not be permitted to enter the Plotting Office.  The Plotting Office (top section of “Dutch Door”) will be open during hours of operation and will act as a customer service window for interaction between students and Plotting Office staff.  Congregating around plotting office walk-up window will not be allowed.  Stand in designated areas for waiting in line.

Computer Labs (Rooms 358 & 359)

Hours:  24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • All students must wear a mask while in the computer labs.
  • No food allowed in the computer labs.  Drinks are permitted if container has a lid that prevents spillage.
  • Due to social distancing guidelines, there will be a limit of 19 people allowed in Lab 359, and 13 people in Lab 358.  To adhere to this guideline, we have signs on the computers that will be put out of service. 
  • Seating is configured to adhere to social distancing guidelines (every other computer) which limits the number of students permitted in the computer labs.  
  • Guests or visitors will not be allowed if there are people waiting to enter the labs.  Congregating around printers will not be permitted.  Please adhere to social distancing guidelines.
