College of Design Building Access & Guidelines

College of Design Building Access & Guidelines

  • Building access hours will be from 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM. 
  • College of Design students will have after-hours access to the building via their Buzzcard. 

Studio Access

  • Studios are open 24/7, with Buzzcard access to main doors after normal hours.
  • Wash hands frequently. Sanitizer is available at various locations in the building.
  • Disinfectant is available upon request from Bryan Croy.

Design Shop Access

 Monday – Thursday: 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM

Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Saturday – Sunday: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM  

  • Upon Entry students should wash hands, pick up tag for equipment. Available equipment and workbenches will have an assigned tag located on a board at the shop entry

  • Only one person per equipment tag.

  • No Food Allowed in Shop areas. Students must be working on class projects. No Play.

  •  Workroom will remain open, however students need to practice safe distancing.


Entry procedure

  1. Before entry everyone must wash/sanitize hands. Practice safe distancing. Only students with shop access can enter. No group projects, only one person per reservation/tag.
  2. Masks are recommended while in the building.
  3. Remove tag(s) from board for equipment you wish to use.
  4. Hang tag on equipment while in use, replace tag on board when done.
  5. When done, please leave safety glasses in “used” bins located near exit. Staff will collect and sanitize.


Laser Cutters

  • Students should practice safe social distancing. 
  • It is encouraged that students sanitize keyboards and handles prior to use with provided spray and towels.
  • Remove used materials and debris from machine and the area.
     

3D Printing

  • Students can email files to - gtdesignshop@gmail.com (time and cost will be given prior to printing) However, this could take longer.
  • Student can also use the 3D print “tag” from the board (1 person only, no reservation needed) and enter the shop to transfer files, pickup and pay. Students should practice safe social distancing.
  • Do Not expect same day service. Plan ahead. Print services will be busy at times.

Shop Sales
Students can use the sale “tag” from the board and enter the shop to purchase acrylic, foam, dowels, etc. Only 1 person may enter, and student should practice safe social distancing.

Plotting Office (Room 359A)

Hours:

  • Monday & Wednesday:  8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Friday:  8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Sunday:  1:00 PM – 6:00 PM

  • (Preferred): Plotting requests may be submitted via web browser or in person during operating hours.  Use this website to upload your image to plot (in .jpg format).  We will allow in-person plotting requests USB Thumb drive (containing the image to plot).  All USB Thumb drives must be wiped down with sanitizer by plotting office personnel.
  • Students will not be permitted to enter the Plotting Office.  The Plotting Office (top section of “Dutch Door”) will be open during hours of operation and will act as a customer service window for interaction between students and Plotting Office staff.  Congregating around plotting office walk-up window will not be allowed.  Stand in designated areas for waiting in line.

Computer Labs (Rooms 358 & 359)

Hours:  24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • All students must wear a mask while in the computer labs.
  • No food allowed in the computer labs.  Drinks are permitted if container has a lid that prevents spillage.
  • Due to social distancing guidelines, there will be a limit of 19 people allowed in Lab 359, and 13 people in Lab 358.  To adhere to this guideline, we have signs on the computers that will be put out of service. 
  • Seating is configured to adhere to social distancing guidelines (every other computer) which limits the number of students permitted in the computer labs.  
  • Guests or visitors will not be allowed if there are people waiting to enter the labs.  Congregating around printers will not be permitted.  Please adhere to social distancing guidelines.
