Spring 2019 - Health Design Studio - Prof. Herb Velazquez

Medbase is an autonomous vehicle designed to replace existing ventilator’s wheelbase, providing a simple, cheap, and retrofitting solution for all hospitals. It significantly reduces the retrieval time of equipment, improves storage efficiency, reduces damage and injuries, and costs. Medbase automatically restocks par-level rooms and travels directly to the patient's bedsides, all while retaining the ability to be manually manipulated when necessary. Medbase won the 2019 Richard John Livingstone Martin Humanitarian Design Award and is currently a finalist in the 2020 Global Grad Show.

Fall 2019 - Invention Studio - Prof. Herb Velazquez

Portal is an electric short-haul airline service designed to address the painful realities of long-range travel in America. The elimination of jet engines not only reduces the environmental and economic operating costs, it allows efficient low altitude flying . As a result, Portal's cabin is unpressurized, greatly reducing the engineering and manufacturing difficulties as well as regulations that come with high-flying jets. Without pressurization, the plane can have large windows and a non-cylindrical fuselage, creating a superior customer experience with panoramic views for every passenger. The electric architecture results in 4500% annual operating cost reduction compared to traditional jets, reducing ticket prices. Moreover, the airline service utilizes the >19,000 dormant local airports in the United States, avoiding metropolitan traffic and long security waits, as well as allowing travelers to take off and land closer to their destinations.
