KRISTINE PARK

SENIOR

Hello I'm Kristine Park. I am a designer that strives to solve problems in the most beautiful way I can. I believe that designers have the unique responsibility and skillset to advocate for users- to discover and communicate their needs to others in order to bring attention to the real problems and develop elegant design solutions. In my own work, I place an emphasis on user research, collaboration, constant refinement, and testing to create meaningful designs that can positively impact those who use them. I am able to balance my logic and critical thinking skills with an artistic eye that is constantly looking at new trends, experimenting, and challenging myself to create projects that are dynamic, passionate, and exciting.

Soul are AR glasses that transform the way you experience art, at for example an exclusive art gallery event. The theory is that one can appreciate art more if they can first hand experience the transformation of a blank canvas to the final product of an artist’s labor. The notion of going from emptiness to creation breathes life into the an artist’s work, and creates a more immersive experience that will occupy the viewers mind and give them a complete new outlook on what they see. Soul is a unique set of glasses that aesthetically draws from current eyewear trends and projects what eyewear may look like in the future. This particular set has been designed specifically for Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirror room exhibits.

Quest Drive

Quest Drive is a design concept that meshes one brand from the 20th century and one from the 21st. For this project I analyzed Cannondale and Kickstarter, to find areas where they could work together to offer a completely new service that could benefit both of them. What I found was that Cannondale stresses on delivering experiences and clinging on to heritage and tradition, making them reluctant to go down the eCommerce route- while Kickstarter is all about giving companies and individuals the ability to pilot brand new and innovative ideas. So where can these companies intersect and work together? I introduce Quest Drive, a service that Cannondale can pilot through Kickstarter. Through this service, users not only purchase a bike but get to take it on the test drive of their dreams in the environment that they were designed for, on a trip curated by the Cannondale team. Users get to test out the newest bike models while getting an amazing experience, Cannondale gets to sell their bikes in bulk without succumbing to eCommerce, and Kickstarter gets to explore a new area of service that they have never done before. A win-win-win situation!

SOZO is an analog solution to a huge and persisting issue that many of us young women face, personal safety. The current personal safety market is saturated with personal defense weapons from tasers, pepper sprays, whistles, etc. What all of these products have in common is the fact that they are all designed to be used when it's almost too late, when confrontation becomes inevitable. But how about a product that could help you out to avoid confrontation all-together? Experts weigh in and stress that 90% of potential attacks and threats can be completely avoided. How? By increasing one's sense of personal awareness.

Personal awareness is the ability to have a good grasp of all of your surroundings. Not only what you can see in front of you, but whats behind you and at both sides. But no one has eyes on the back of their heads so how can one know what's around them at all times. I introduce SOZO a minimal phone accessory that includes a small panoramic mirror that has been designed to give users a 180 degree view of their rear surroundings. So in those worst case situations where you're walking home alone and your phone's dead, you still have what you need to stay aware, make informed decisions, and stay safe.
