Faculty Position in UX/UI and/or Service Design

Location: Atlanta, Georgia, U.S. (Main GT Campus)

The School of Industrial Design at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia currently seeks to fill a new tenure-track faculty position at the assistant or associate level in Industrial Design. Applicants should have experience in the area(s) of UX/UI and/or Service Design. This position will bolster the School’s emerging studio tracks in UX/UI and establish a research agenda in the same arena.

The School of Industrial Design currently offers a BSID, MID, MS-HCI (with a specialization in Industrial Design), an ID Minor, and is working toward establishing a PhD while currently offering a doctoral concentration in ID with the School of Architecture. The enrollment of the School of Industrial Design has grown from 120 students in 2010 to over 350 students today, with the largest undergraduate program in the College of Design.

Job Summary

We are searching for candidates who place a strong emphasis on human-centered design and user experience along with a strong track record and commitment to design, research, and teaching. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to the teaching and mentoring of students. A PhD or terminal degree in industrial design or a related discipline is required. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Our mandate is to build design and research capabilities in collaboration with other well recognized Programs and Centers on the Georgia Tech campus including: Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Architecture, Interactive Computing, Graphics Visualization and Usability Center (GVU), Center for Inclusive Design and Innovation (CIDI) and the SimTigrate Lab. The school is also launching a 2-year exchange-based MID program at Georgia Tech’s satellite campus in Shenzhen, China beginning fall 2022. Teaching at the Shenzhen campus may be available on a rotational basis.

The successful candidate for this position is expected to develop a strong collaborative research agenda ideally connected with one or more of the groups identified above; teach specialty courses in design theory or methodology; and/or teach an integrated design studio track in UX/UI and Service Design.

Required Qualifications: A PhD or terminal degree in industrial design or a related discipline is required.
