Launchpad

Launchpad

To show off all the hard work of students, the school of industrial design has an end-of-semester showcase where students, both graduate, and undergraduate, display their work from the past semester. Curious about how to take part? This page has all the information you need to ensure that you are ready to show your work to the world.

So What is Launchpad, Anyway?

You might have heard Launchpad being mentioned here and there, but what is it really? In short, Launchpad is a big end of semester party where all school of industrial design students are encouraged to present their work for their peers, their professors and for industry professionals. While Launchpad is held both in the fall and the spring, the spring Launchpad is the larger and better attended of the two due to its nearness to graduation. Launchpad is one of the best opportunities ID students have to polish their work and presentation skills, as well as displaying their work to professionals and people from outside ID.

Online Compontent

Due to complications from COVID-19, Launchpad was held online Spring 2020 through Spring 2021. As a result, a portion of the ID website was created function as a gallery of student work. This digital aspect of Launchpad is going to remain a permanent element of Launchpad moving forward. Even after in-person Launchpad resumes, there will still be a digitized portion. In addition to specific capstone projects and class work, each student is heavily encouraged to make and curate a student portfolio page. The Launchpad work and student portfolio pages can be viewed at the links below.

Student Work

One of the main ways students are asked to participate in Launchpad is to curate digital and physical work. Details about how and where you should display physical work (models, posters, and presentation) will be given near the end of the semester by your studio professor. The link for adding work to or creating a digital work page will be sent out around the same time. However, if students wish to edit work that is already on their digital work page, they are able to do so anytime of the year. If you would like more information on what you should put on your work page and how you should format it, try viewing the example page below.
