Anna Goddard

Undergraduate

As an Industrial Design and Marketing student, I strive to design practical and thoughtful products that improve the way we live. I find that the best products are ones that allow us to focus on the more important things in life and hope to achieve this in my designs. I am forward thinking, empathetic and detail oriented. I am extremely proud of the work that I have done and am always excited to continue to develop my skill set and improve on these strengths. I hope you enjoy looking at my work.

Immersive Space Project

Immersive Space Project

Team Members:  Cathryn Gold, Sydney Roessler, KC Westbrook
Class: ID 3052 | Instructor: Noah Posner

As humans, we all have an innate affinity for the natural world and all it has to offer. Spending time in nature has proven to have psychological, cognitive and social benefits in addition to helping us minimize stress. College students, especially those in urban settings, do not always have access to nature and all of its benefits. We designed an immersive nature space for students to take breaks from their work and relax.

My responsibility for this project was to develop the overall structure and movement of the vines surrounding the space. The vines at the entrance peacefully sway to encourage users to enter the space. As users walk up to the entrance, the vines open to welcome them in and close behind them to provide a secluded and personal area for the user to relax.

Sprout Floor Lamp

Sprout Floor Lamp

Class: ID 2024  |  Instructor: Kimberly Snyder

At the start of the project, I researched children’s libraries and other reading spaces and used this as inspiration for a reading lamp. From this research and several weeks of designing, I created Sprout, the children’s reading lamp. The purpose of the lamp is to not only provide lighting, but to be a design piece with an interesting and inspiring form and bright colors. The design symbolizes a child’s growth in learning and reading and when used in the home, the lamp is designed to grow with the child from the nursery to a child’s bedroom. The floor lamp is also made to fit a children’s library or another reading space. The wide petals and curved structure create a welcoming form that encourages users to stay and read in the space as well as promoting curiosity and imagination. The felt allows the light to glow from within the petals, spreading the light to the space and creating the perfect environment for reading.

Deep Sleep Ring

Deep Sleep Ring

Class: ID 2024  |  Instructor: Kimberly Snyder

This nighttime wearable is designed to help college students improve their sleep habits and get a better night's sleep. The Deep Sleep ring utilizes breathing techniques and aromatherapy to relax and center the user while trying to fall asleep. The scope of this project was to design a wellness product for college students based on our vision of five years in the future. Based on my research I found that the use of smart wearables will continue to increase as technology advances. I designed this ring to be compact and personal enough to fit in a dorm room or small apartment space. The interchangeable aromatherapy pads with essential oils such as lavender and roman chamomile help the user to naturally relax and center themselves. The moving ball around the inside of the ring uses the 4-7-8 breathing technique to focus the user on their breathing. These two proven techniques work together to help the user fall asleep faster. Some other features of the ring include a heart rate monitor to automatically turn off the ring when the user falls asleep and a touch on/off button to manually set the ring. The compact charging port for the ring is made up of four stacked layers each with a different purpose. The time settings allow the user to adjust the ring to their preferences, and the charging space doubles as a safe place to store the ring when not in use.

Frésko Serving Set

Frésko Serving Set

Class: ID 2024  |  Instructor: Kimberly Snyder

The Frésko set is the Mediterranean inspired serving set with versatile, removable pieces to allow hosts to enjoy appetizers with guests in their own home. At the start of the project, I found that a key component of Mediterranean cuisine is that many of the dishes are meant to be served to a group and shared amongst many people. I kept this concept of sharing and bringing people together in mind when I started to design this simple set. The curved lines of the dishes and platter and the colors chosen were inspired my Mediterranean architecture. The base of the set is a large wooden platter that can be used for both preparing and serving the foods. The two large dishes fit inside a shallow ring on the platter to serve the larger items, or maybe even some hummus. The three smaller spaces on the platter and their dishes are to serve smaller items or sauces. Each piece uses the same design features to keep the set consistent. When used either together or apart, the versatile Frésko set is perfect for sharing appetizers and meals with friends and family.
