Equipment and Capabilities
Equipment and Capabilities
Our lab has developed a diverse array of capabilties centered around human-machine interface design. We strive to lead and define the future of transportation design and development.
Competencies
3D Scanning
We have the capability using lab scanners (Creality and Artec Leo) to scan production vehicle surfaces at the nanometer scale. This level of accuracy delivers the most authentic visual fidelity and surface language in record time.
Modular Buck
Our modular, reconfigurable buck allows expedient control system mockup for user testing along with a full sized augmented reality windshield.
XR (mixed VR/AR) Reality
Using Apple Vision Pro and other PC based VR headsets, we use XR technologies to quickly model diverse cockpit/interior controls and virtual environments for testing.
Eye Tracking | Workload Performance
Using our assessment tools (eye tracking, driver cameras, super cluster computing), we are able to synthesize performance (driving) metrics at a high level.
Advanced Modeling
Using our high-end workstations, we are able to do advanced surface modeling using automotive industry tools (Alias / Fusion) to build and refine sophisticated models.
Production Component Testing
Using our scanner, modeler, virtual workstations, and printers in combination, we are able to replicate any production vehicle interior control system using CAD and Figma.
Large Format 3D Printing
Employing large format 3D printers, we can rapidly protoype production accurate components and automotive surfaces. Further, with over 5 diverse resins, we are able to replicate high strength to elastomeric parts.
Virtual Environment Development
Utilizing video game engines (Unreal), we develop virtual assets (environments, roads, traffic, etc) to be used in driving simulation and usability testing.
Programmable Haptics
Using off the shelf and custom built programmable, haptic controls, we are able to not only mimic, but inform new control schema for vehicle controls.
Digital Sketching
Grounded in industrial design, automotive sketching and concept development is always near and dear to our hearts. Digital sketching is a fundamental first practice for our idea generation.
