This project looked into food and interactive products in the home in a post-COVID world. Our team came up with the ENA, a meal replacement appliance for the user who is always on the move. Applying blended research, user interviews and tests we arrived at ENA. Cutting out the time sink of cooking and cleaning, people still get a nutritious meal through meal replacement shakes. ENA also utilizes a product service system that delivers refills whenever a user is low making it as simple as a tap with our accompanying app. ENA was possible through group members mighty Owen Rohm, kind Cathryn Gold, and myself.

design for children

Class: ID 3051 - Interactive Studio, Wei Wang

The first project of this semester, the class was asked to design solutions for the post-pandemic world, as far as 1-3 years out from now. Researching the impact of COVID could be a project all on it's own so my group narrowed in on a niche and designed to help a specific group. Choosing to design for children, we learned to create a product service system that uses 3D printing technology to create action figures. Buying our simple and accessible printer, kids could create and customize their own action figures without ever having to leave the home. Through a subscription service, kids would receive new filaments every month that would allow them to make their figures unique, from glow in the dark figures to gold accessories printed with each new figure. With limitless branding opportunities and sponsors from shows or characters that kids already know and love, our product printer pals has found a niche with untapped potential.

Class: ID 3813 - Craft Explorations, Lisa Marks

Assigned the unique craft Tenerife lace, we were asked to research, experiment and design a full project around the craft. Starting by learning how to perform the craft, we then pushed the limits of what could be made or done with tenerife lace, trying everything we could. We made giant lace and tiny lace, frozen lace and even attempted three dimensional lace. Some were bigger successes than others, but all were worth trying. I ended the project by designing a bed using lace. Meant to be hung, the lace bed would provide the comfort of perfect nights sleep without taking up the space of a normal bed. During the day the user could simply raise the bed towards the ceiling and forget it is even there. Meant for users who need every square foot, the tenerife bed provides beauty, comfort and will hopefully help preserve the art of tenerife lace.
