The very idea of a personal statement is perplexing to me, especially within the context of differentiating oneself for hire. By nature of being human, the following quote by the Dali Lama reveals something interesting with regards to one’s person: "Everything in my own immediate experience supports my deep belief that I am the absolute center of the universe, the realest, most vivid and important person in existence." While this is certainly true for me (and likely for you), it is by recognizing this statement as a fallacy that we are able to operate and excel in this connected society. I could list my strengths in bullets, slap a banal platitude down, and speak of my creativity, but let’s face it; This paragraph is not about me (or at least it shouldn’t be), it’s about you, your company, and your goals. Words on a page are meaningless unless you believe them, unless they resonate with you. If you think big picture, I’ll focus on the details; If you’re more in-the-moment, I’ll watch the long term. A designer can be many things, but I am exactly what you need.

Lamp

Class: ID 2024  |  Instructor: Lisa Marks

This right here is a lamp designed for a restaurant. What restaurant? The Optimist! Never been there? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Anyway this lamp is 6 feet tall, made of metal, an abstracted fish trap, and much cooler in person. Sorry you won't get a chance to see it or hear me discuss it with any drop of eloquence.

Paint by Slumbers

Class: ID 2024  |  Instructor: Lisa Marks

Paint by Slumbers is a sleep wellness tracker that uses a painting experience  where your sleep data becomes the palate by which you can either free-paint or paint by numbers! This experience is halfway between traditional painting and modern "paint by numbers" phone apps. Paint by Slumbers is designed to help users track their sleeping habits, and encourage better sleeping practices by  adding a level of productivity to sleeping that many college age adults find absent in general sleep. By converting sleep data into painting tools, users will feel more inspired to sleep as the potential quality of their artworks increases with the amount and quality of user's sleep over the span of a week. While many sleep tracking products exist currently, none act to encourage sleeping habits and focus solely on keeping users informed.

HØLD is a “smart tupperware” organization system that is an add-on to one’s fridge. It tracks how long each tupperware has been in the fridge and can remind you to eat stored food such as leftovers or prepped meals. Made for single-shoppers, HOLD supports the trend of eco-consumption through its inherent waste reduction feature. It helps users stay up-to-date on their wasteful habits.
