Wayfinding Lamp

Class: ID 2024  |  Instructor: Lisa Marks

My design objective for this project was to create a wayfinding lamp that not only provided locational information but enhanced the experience of the NYC Highline. The final design features 16 gauge steel, frosted acrylic paneling, 16 mcmaster carr L brackets that secured the lamp’s structure, which is completely hollow, faux greenery, and a laser engraved map. The lamp’s overall dimensions are 78 x 32 x 16 inches. Both side panels that feature the Highline logo can unhook to reveal the internal structure, to access the light fixtures to allow for easy maintenance.

SPECTRUM is a clip-on UV sensor that allows athletes to keep track of their daily sun exposure. Intended for athletes who train for hours in the sun’s harmful rays, it clips to clothing and indicates the UV index at that time. This allows the user to recognize how much SPF to apply, when they should go inside, and what clothes to wear based on UV levels.
SPECTRUM wirelessly charges through its silicon case, which is available in various colors, and can be removed from the device to be sanitized.
